International School Hamburg
New building and extension of the day school, including main assembly hall, canteen kitchen, and a double sports hall in line with international competition regulations
In the district of Groß Flottbek, a new school building was erected for International School Hamburg. Built in two stages, the complex consists of a three-story block that accommodates the classrooms, the administration, an auditorium for 450 persons and the large canteen. There is also a single-story kindergarten as well as a double sports hall dimensioned to comply with international competition regulations. In a second construction stage an additional wing housing class rooms, offices and a sports hall was added.
Apart from the upper floors, the building was erected jointless in reinforced concrete. Bracing was provided by shear walls and cores as well as the punctuated facade. The roof structure for the sports halls consists of laminated timber trusses with spans of over 30 metres. The entire load-bearing structure was optimized with a view to using as many prefabricated components as possible.
