Ecomat
The Center for Eco-efficient Materials & Technologies is a joint research facility for science and industry
The new research building known as the Center for Eco-efficient Materials & Technologies, or Ecomat in short, combines the expertise of industry and science in the field of materials and lightweight engineering. Here, around 500 employees carry out research and development united. The five-storey building with one basement level houses laboratories with vibration-sensitive equipment, crane halls, and office spaces. The project is divided into five individual building elements, whereby a single-storey hall lies between the three parallel, offset multi-level building blocks. These halls are designed to withstand very high loads, so heavy trucks and forklifts can drive inside. In addition, several bridge cranes with spans of up to 20 metres are also installed.
The building blocks are executed as jointless reinforced concrete frameworks with load-bearing exterior façades. Wide-span, slim flat ceilings provide maximum flexibility in usage of the building. The basement level was constructed as a partial basement jointless and waterproof. The building rests on pile foundations.
