Kronenrain site
New construction of an ensemble – parking garage, city balcony, bridge and tower create new connection between city center and landscape
In 2022, the city of Neuenburg am Rhein hosted the State Garden Show of Baden-Württemberg. This gave the city the opportunity to redevelop inner-city areas. The Kronenrain site, located at the entrance to the city, played a special role. A new parking garage was built there with a city balcony on the roof level and a viewing tower accessible via a bridge, offering a panoramic view of the landscape.
The multi-storey car park, with its distinctive stamped concrete facade, is located at the entrance to the city, directly on the main road, and together with the tower and bridge, forms a new landmark for the city. It connects the edge of the city with the Rhine plain and the Wuhrloch park. An elevator in the tower provides barrier-free access to the park. The parking garage has three levels, two spindle systems and a total of 231 parking spaces.
The bridge between the parking garage and the tower is designed as a single-span cantilevered girder. The cross-section is a steel box girder that forms a trough cross-section with the statically effective box girder railings. Due to the bridge axis running alongside the tower, support is provided by a cantilevered girder grid connected to the core.
