We congratulate Dr. Hans Scholz on his 60th birthday

Dr.-Ing. Hans Scholz.

On June 8, Dr. Hans Scholz celebrated his 60th birthday: a welcome occasion to take a look back.

Hans Scholz was born in Münster. He initially completed a degree in civil engineering at Münster University of Applied Sciences in the shortest possible time before gaining his second degree as a graduate engineer at TU Berlin – as part of which he was awarded the Dischinger Prize by Germany’s Betonverein concrete association. After a short spell at Hochtief AG in Frankfurt, he returned to his current adopted city of Berlin, where he gained a doctorate under Prof. Specht at TU Berlin’s Chair for Reinforced Concrete with a thesis on shear force bearing behavior.

In 1995, Hans Scholz returned to the construction industry, joining the Philipp Holzmann subsidiary IBTB where, ultimately as a managing director, he took charge of planning major infrastructure projects among other things. Then, 21 years ago, WTM Engineers Berlin was born. Hans Scholz was a cofounder and remains a managing director, and the office is now the professional home of around 40 colleagues. Since 2014 Dr. Scholz has also been a member of the executive board at the parent company WTM Engineers in Hamburg. As early as 2004 he received his certification as a certified check engineer and as a test expert by the Federal Railway Authority.

Molded by his time in the construction industry, Hans Scholz is a civil engineer through and through – always with an eye on practical feasibility. The breadth of projects linked to his name as planner or check engineer is impressive and includes elements of transport infrastructure such as the U5 between Brandenburger Tor and Rotes Rathaus and complex inner-city high-rise projects such as the Federal Ministry of the Interior or the Tetris site on Oranienburger Strasse. In addition to this, Hans Scholz also works voluntarily on the board of Berlin’s Chamber of Construction, on the state board of the German Association of Consulting Engineers (VBI) in Berlin-Brandenburg, and with the PraxisRegelnBau initiative.

His colleagues on the board as well as all the employees at WTM Engineers would like to sincerely congratulate this passionate musician and choral singer on reaching this milestone birthday. Along with this comes a huge thank-you for his extraordinary dedication; we look forward to continued collaboration in the years to come.
