90 years of WTM Engineers – on the trail of our buildings and projects

To mark our company’s 90th anniversary, we brought together colleagues from Hamburg and guests from our offices in Berlin and Munich for a special site visit day. Following a welcome address by Dr Stefan Ehmann and Fritz Hilgenstock, everyone embarked on a tour: Nine routes offered a first-hand experience of the diversity of our projects and, with them, nine decades of engineering history.

The program took guests through the harbor to the historic Rethespeicher, past architectural icons such as the Arne Jacobsen House and the Grindel high-rises – including a ride on the paternoster lift – and on to cutting-edge research with the high-intensity X-ray pulses of the European XFEL in Schenefeld. The development of Hamburg’s underground network was also brought to life – from our founding project, the U1 Jungfernstieg station, right through to the current planning of the U5.

The tour offered plenty of opportunities to rediscover familiar projects, chat to colleagues working in different fields, and share plans and memories.

The glorious weather meant the celebrations could then continue on the roof terrace – with a BBQ buffet, drinks, and plenty of good conversation. The exchange with our retired staff and former managing directors was particularly enjoyable.

Many thanks to everyone who organized, supported, and celebrated this anniversary with us. Here’s to 90 years of WTM Engineers – and to everything we’re still building together.
