Last Thursday, 50 members of the WTM Engineers staff working mainly in the planning of infrastructure development projects such as bridges, tunnels, and subway lines were able to get up close to the construction of one of the most important projects in the country’s Energy Transition: ElbX, the Elbe crossing of the SuedLink near Wewelsfleth. The project involves construction of a 5.2 km-long tunnel, which is currently being bored by the ELSA tunnel boring machine. The group was led by colleagues who had planned the undertaking and are now responsible for site management and construction supervision. Their explanations made tangible how the planning is being implemented and what challenges need to be overcome – an exchange of experiences of the very best kind.
The client for SuedLink is TenneT Germany, and WTM Engineers has teamed up with BabEng in the ElbX planning consortium to take care of planning and overseeing the development. The executing consortium is made up of PORR Deutschland and Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG.
