On Friday, July 4, the foundation stone was laid for the extension to the Rostock City Hall. Following a successful architectural competition, an archaeological investigation of the historical site, and intensive planning, the project is now entering the shell construction phase.

Two new buildings designed by MHB GmbH Architekten & Ingenieure with up to three underground levels will create more space for the administration in future – right next to Rostock’s historic City Hall. There will be a double-gabled building inspired by historical predecessors purpose-created for the City Parliament’s plenary chamber. Next to it, an administrative building with an inner courtyard is set to emerge. This expansion, located centrally at Neuer Markt, has been designed to meet high sustainability standards and aims to achieve GSBC certification in Gold.

The complex excavation pit required for the buildings was constructed with an unanchored tangent bored pile wall and Berlin shoring. WTM Engineers planned the excavation pit and supporting structure of the rising buildings, handled supervision on site for the excavation pit shoring, and will be responsible for the engineering inspections of the watertight structure.

We wish the client and everyone involved ongoing positive progress in the project!
