Dr. Günter Timm 1939–2022

Dr. Günter Timm.

Dr. Günter Timm passed away on Saturday January 30. The news was received with deep sadness by his former partners as well as current and past employees of WTM Engineers. Our thoughts and deepest sympathy go out to his family and friends. Dr. Timm first joined the Hamburg office of Peters-Windels in 1969 after completing his studies and doctorate in Karlsruhe and was a partner in the firm from 1971–2005. During this time, he played a major role in shaping the company. His name remains closely associated with the company as the letter “T” in WTM Engineers. A wide range of different structures – from harbor facilities to industrial buildings, silos, grain mills, engineering structures to high-rise buildings in Germany and abroad – all bear his signature. From 1975, Dr. Timm was a test engineer for structural analysis, from 1981 the regional chairman of the Hamburg test engineers and from 1991 to 2006 the president of the Federal Association of Test Engineers for Structural Engineering. In addition, as a member of standardization committees he made his opinions known and influenced engineering practices.
Dr. Timm remained in very close contact with WTM Engineers until the end and showed a constant interest not only in current projects but also in those that he originally initiated through his commitment. Our interaction with him was always both enriching and constructive, and will be sorely missed, as will of course he himself be.
