On June 1, 2026, the foundation stone was laid for the HafenCity Campus, simultaneously kicking off construction of Hamburg’s most modern new school building. By early 2028, the Lohsepark will see the development of an integrated district school built to accommodate eight streams for each year group, with a high school section as well as an incorporated childcare center. There will also be three sports halls of varying sizes, arranged innovatively one above the other. The client for this unique project is SBH | Schulbau Hamburg, and the city authorities are investing around 120 million euros in the complex, which will extend over 32,000 m² of gross floor area.
A distinctive feature of the new build with its deep foundations is the sustainable hybrid wood construction method and the high proportion of recycled concrete used. Wood-concrete composite floors are to be used in the school, while the sports halls incorporate reinforced concrete composite floors with vibration dampers.
