A topping-out ceremony and the laying of the foundation stone for one project on the same day! That’s a rare occurrence, which is why we really had to report on it. What began last October with the laying of the foundation stone for the new administration building on the University of Rostock’s Ulmencampus was celebrated twice over last Monday.
The former military barracks, located to the west of the old town, is being transformed into a university campus for the humanities. Our assignment here, on behalf of the Rostock State Building and Property Office (SBL), includes two new buildings as well as two conversion projects involving listed buildings. The new administration building was topped out after less than a year of construction, while at the same time, the laying of a new foundation stone marked progress on the second new building project on campus – namely the Humanities Library. For this ensemble of buildings, developed by architects BHBVT, WTM Engineers is in charge of the structural design and on-site engineering supervision.
The progress of the project was celebrated in glorious fall weather by politicians and the University of Rostock, together with those involved in the construction and numerous invited guests. We’re already looking forward to the next topping-out ceremony in Rostock.
