On April 13, 2026, the City of Hamburg approved the funding application for the expansion of the Amalie Sieveking Hospital, thus helping to secure future healthcare provision in Hamburg. The Protestant hospital is to remain open during the expansion, which will add a three-story building housing five new operating theaters, an enlarged central A&E hall, new delivery rooms, and a ward for obstetrics and gynecology. The commissioning client for the new 7,700 m² building is Amalie Sieveking Krankenhaus gGmbH.
WTM Engineers is responsible for the structural engineering for the plans, which will be devised by architecture practice t+p architekten lohmann rumke PartGmbB, as well as for the site and structural planning of the excavation work. The new plans for the building involve reinforced concrete construction along with a 27-meter, column-free steel roof spanning the service courtyard, and will improve hospital operations – particularly in the emergency room and obstetrics wards – as of 2029.
