New protective wrap for the sarcophagus in Chernobyl.

Together with Germanischer Lloyd, WTM came up with the idea for the world’s largest land-based moving structure, which was finished today. 30 years after the reactor meltdown there, the nuclear power plant in Chernobyl now has a new protective cover. The arched roof will prevent radioactive radiation getting out or water getting in, and will enable the ruin to be dismantled in the future. The individual parts were put together at a safe distance from the plant before the entire structure was slid into place.

WTM presented the feasibility study for the structure at an international conference in 1997 in Moscow. Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper ran an article on it back in 2011, and also recent completion. You can read the articles at:
