Lecture – Building for the Bundestag

Vision and Construction – structural planning symposium.

This year the German Association of Consulting Engineers (Verband Beratender Ingenieure) organized its third structural planning symposium entitled Vision and Construction. With 250 participants, this specialist forum is one of the most important industry meets. Several planning engineers gave talks and presented outstanding examples of their work in Germany and abroad. The internationally renowned speakers included Bill Baker from SOM, the studio responsible for the design of the Burj Khalifa, currently the tallest building in the world.

Dr. Hans Scholz spoke about planning and building for the government, focusing in his talk on the current project for the German Bundestag “Rück- und Neubau der Liegenschaft Dorotheenstraße 85 / Schadowstraße 4-6” (Dismantling and reconstructing the properties Dorotheenstrasse 85 / Schadowstrasse 4-6). The WTM Engineers managing director explained the particularities involved in planning on government property, the dismantling of existing structures in the immediate vicinity of listed buildings, and the complex foundation situation. WTM Engineers has planned and inspected numerous projects relating to the relocation of the government and parliament to Berlin since 1995.
