On March 21, Head of the Directorate-General for Waterways and Shipping Eric Oehlmann, Dr. Jeannette Ebers-Ernst of the German Association of Consulting Engineers (VBI), Dr. Heinrich Bökamp, President of the Federal Chamber of Engineers, and Dr. Ulrich Jäppelt of the German Federal Association of Design Review Engineers (BVPI) put the seal to the “Planning Charter” in Berlin. At the event, attended by Dr. Volker Wissing, the Federal Minister for Digital and Transport, a milestone was thus reached for fast and efficient planning and construction management for hydraulic engineering projects. The charter is an expression of shared responsibility for the projects on federal waterways and should make a key contribution to ensuring transparent, cooperative, and fair cooperation. The charter signing ceremony was broadcast live at the German Construction Technology Convention in Stuttgart.
“The basic idea of the charter – to promote strong cooperation among all those involved in the planning and construction process – is likewise supported by the inspection engineers when undertaking independent inspections according to the two-person rule. Involving inspection engineers in good time in conjunction with trusting and appreciative cooperation helps to accelerate construction projects in both the planning and implementation phases and to ensure safe and economical projects,” says Ulrich Jäppelt, Managing Director of WTM Engineers GmbH.
